The First Quarter Moon is about momentum. It’s when we take the seed of intention from the New Moon and *commit*. With healing as your focus, this ritual supports you in actively moving toward wholeness, even when the path feels uphill. This is about tangible steps, not passive hope.
What You’ll Need
- Blue candle โ Blue connects to healing, peace, and emotional processing. (zero-cost: Any candle you have, or a small bowl of water)
- Small bowl of salt โ Salt cleanses and purifies, removing stagnant energy. (zero-cost: A bowl of tap water)
- A photo or representation of what you are healing โ A focal point helps direct your energy and intention. It could be a picture of yourself, a symbol of your ailment, or an object representing your lineage. (zero-cost: A written word representing what you are healing)
- Journal and pen โ For reflection and recording insights during the ritual. (zero-cost: Any piece of paper and writing utensil)
The Ritual โ 30-Minute Version
1. Prepare Your Space (5 minutes)
Clear a small area where you can sit comfortably. This could be your bed, a chair, or the floor. Place the blue candle (or alternative) and the bowl of salt (or water) in front of you. Have your photo/representation and journal nearby. If you’re able, open a window slightly to allow for airflow.
2. Cleansing Breath (5 minutes)
Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. Inhale deeply, filling your lungs, and exhale slowly, releasing any tension. Visualize a gentle blue light surrounding you, washing away any negativity or pain.
3. Acknowledge the Wound (5 minutes)
Gaze at the photo/representation of what you are healing. Silently acknowledge the pain, the struggle, or the burden it represents. Say to yourself, “I see you. I acknowledge you. I am ready to heal.” If you are healing ancestral trauma, speak to your ancestors and acknowledge their struggles and resilience.
4. Commit to Action (10 minutes)
This is the core of the First Quarter Moon. Think of one concrete step you can take *this week* to support your healing. This could be scheduling a doctor’s appointment, attending a support group meeting, practicing a self-care activity, or setting a boundary. Write this action down in your journal. Visualize yourself successfully completing this action, feeling stronger and more empowered as a result.
5. Seal with Gratitude (5 minutes)
Thank the moon, your body, your ancestors, or whatever higher power you connect with for supporting your healing journey. Express gratitude for the strength you have within you and the progress you are making. Blow out the candle (or extinguish it safely). Dispose of the salt/water outside, returning it to the earth.
Short on Time? The 2-Minute Version
Light a candle (or have a bowl of water). Hold a photo or symbol representing what you’re healing. Acknowledge the pain, then commit to ONE tangible action you’ll take this week to support your healing. Write it down. Express gratitude for your strength. Extinguish the candle.
Journal Prompts
- What is one small, achievable action I can take this week to move toward healing?
- What limiting belief is holding me back from fully embracing my healing journey?
- What resources or support systems can I tap into to help me on this path?
Crystal + Herb Pairing
Lapis Lazuli paired with Garden Sage โ Lapis Lazuli assists in accessing deep emotional truths and communicating them effectively, while garden sage clears stagnant energy and provides a supportive, grounding presence during the healing process.
When Not to Do This Ritual
If you are feeling completely overwhelmed or in a state of acute crisis, this ritual might feel too demanding. Instead, focus on grounding practices like deep breathing, gentle stretching, or spending time in nature. Prioritize self-soothing and stabilization before attempting active healing work.
